Ragnar 2010

Sharon was nice enough to find out her work was doing the Ragnar and got us all signed up.  I have been wanting to do this for a couple of  years but it's somewhat hard to find a team to jump on to.  The race was super fun, yet tiring.  We started in Logan at 11:30 and we had some pretty awesome runners on our team.  For Evan's legs he seriously rocked them. He was all smiles for all his running, and amazingly enough his knee didn't give him any problems.  Keep in mind though, right after we took this picture he turned the corner to a gigantic hill which he wasn't smiling about.  But Evan has the best attitude about everything, so regardless he was still all smiles for the whole race.  Here is Evan finishing and being a spokesperson for Propel water.

However, I was not all smiles for my first leg.  I was all pumped up seeing how good everyone was doing so I take off on my leg feeling great even though it's this dirt road that's kicking up dust everytime a car drives by, plus the heat, plus it was this non-stop uphill road.  By mile 2 I was almost in tears because I was so tired but I wasn't even close to being done.  I had to run 7.4 miles.  Evan tried calming me down, but I didn't really calm down until another 1 1/2 miles when I saw my sweet dad come driving up and yelling that I can do it and he would stop every mile to talk to me and give me water.  Without him, I would've been super super done.

Evan had to run again in the middle of the night around midnight or 1 and he kicked ass.  He ran 8 minute miles and just killed people.  He said he felt great and he looked great too, sorry no pictures, it was pitch black.  All you could see was his headlamp and reflective vest.  My next leg was 4 miles and I still wasn't really into it from Avon so I didn't get great times but I did much better then my first leg.  We went to North Summit highschool to sleep for 3 hours and shower for 2 bucks each and then woke up again at 6am to do our final legs.  Evan once again did AMAZING and I was so excited for him I forgot to take pictures on his leg, SORRY!!  We are getting better at taking pictures even though it doesn't seem like it some days.  My last leg I felt great, I was on track for 8:30-9 minute miles and then I turned the corner onto mile 2 and wanted to die.  There was this enormous hill that didn't stop for a mile.  I ran the first half thinking it was over, and turned the corner and no it wasn't done.  So once again, my legs said they were done haha.  Evan was such a sweetheart and once I got to the top of the hill he ran the last mile with me so I would finish and he kept talking to me the entire way down saying you can do this, you will finish and you will pass people.  And what do ya know, I did!

Overall it really was a fun experience and we are planning on doing it again next year, just as long as I don't get Avon Pass again.  Like always Evan excels at any physical challenge presented to him.  He rocks it, I love that he has that competitive nature of to do good no matter the pain.  Wish I had that kind of dedication, when I feel the pain I start to stop.  Let's be honest.  Next race, 10k!

Congratulations to you both! I think it's really cool that you guys do that stuff together. I don't think you give yourself all the credit you deserve. Good luck on your next race!

Great Job, congraulations!
I'm impressed at your never ending stamina! I do two miles on the treadmill and have to rest for the remainder of the evening.
Rachel, thanks for talking Evan into joining you. It's always good to take on something new!
Evan, your sucess at running doesn't surprise me at all, you have always loved a challenge! (especially if it is athletic)
You are certainly packing in a lot of "bonding activities" in your first six months of marriage. I'm exhausted just watching you, time to take another rest!
