Day 2

On Day 2 we went to Arundel Castle, which had an overwhelming amount of Howard history.  Their crest were on the flags, countless pictures of Howards, and the history of the castle made for a great tour.  We also found a red telephone booth, which I was beyond stoked on.  After the castle we headed out to the open air museum.  This was basically a village that they had taken down older homes and rebuilt them in this "museum".  It was interesting because all the homes were extremely old, and they put furniture in the homes to make it appear from that time era.  Super educational, but yet still fun at the same time.  Think parade of homes, but in the 1500s.  And there is the open air museum!  We had a lovely lunch by a pond they had, and then had a great time just wandering around and reading all the plaques they had outside each home explaining what kind of person would've lived there (ex. blacksmith, farmer, etc.)

The entrance to the castle.

The "newer" looking part, the family still lived in the castle.  And this part is where they lived.

Group shot!

This was walking along the walls, overlooking the city.

The dungeon

One of the towers, and the view you had from the castle.

Entrance gates.  I'm assuming their moat was down there?

Evan and AJ found these awesome helmets in the gift shop.

A view looking up at the towers.

The Howard crest

Another entry gate.

After we left Arundel Castle, there was actually a church on the grounds that the family owned as well.  What was interesting when you entered the church was there is a wall in-between the church.  On the other side of the wall is for the public of the town and is a Protestant church on the other side.  But on the side the family owned, they kept it as a Catholic church, because they re bought their side of the church.  Interesting how that all worked.
The church that was on the grounds of Arundel Castle.  The flowers outside were beautiful, it reminded me of the Secret Garden.

Inside of the church

Another Howard family crest!

After we left the church, we headed into town and saw the bigger cathedral that was undergoing renovation.  That cathedral was called The Cathdral Church of Our Lady and St. Philip Howard.

Of course I had to get a red telephone booth picture.  By the way though, it was disgusting inside.

 The cute little streets

The inside was breathtaking.  And it was so bright inside

Next stop was the open air museum.  We didn't get very many pictures, I think we were having too much fun running around and touring all the houses.  But we did get a couple.  I of course found some sheep and wanted very badly to pet one, but apparently the feeling wasn't mutual

This kind of gives a taste of how it was set up.  Looks just like a town, but the houses are super old and you can walk in all of them.

Arundel is such a quaint town, I am so glad you got to see it. As for the museum, so very Sussex!
