With winter almost over, only 2 months left I find it strange with the temperatures we have seen this year. I have never seen it this cold, for instance I came to work Wednesday and it was -20. Now for me, that hurts my lungs as well as gets me running everywhere because I want inside as fast as possible. This year has been a phenomenal winter. We get dumped on in November giving the best powder I have seen in years in December, which is unheard of. Evan and I had the best ski days ever the month of December. Now when we go, it's strictly groomed runs everywhere you look which is positively boring and we prefer to not go on those days. I have always had the fondest memories of winter, when my sister was in town we were retelling stories from when we were in 3rd grade up until 8th grade just doing crazy stuff. I honestly don't understand why kids aren't outside playing. Granted this last week it was really honestly cold, but this has been a great winter. I was constantly outside sledding, making snowmen, we would make giant snow forts and the list goes on and on. Maybe parents don't encourage their children anymore to go outside and play? I was listening to the radio and they were saying ages 2-4 most children could open an app. and use it either on an iphone or ipod but couldn't tie their shoes. Or most children could operate a computer but couldn't ride a bike without training wheels. To me, this is a huge issue. Why are they constantly on electronics but not outside? I was allowed 1-2 hours of TV, and normally only 1 hour of what I wanted to watch. Other then that, I needed to go play outside or figure something else out. There wasn't this constant sit and watch TV for hours. And yes, this was up to my parents. They were extremely involved in my hobbies and always pushed me to try something new and get outside and have fun. My Dad has countless stories of him being younger and playing with his brothers, and I can honestly say I have the same stories of playing with all the neighborhood kids. I grew up in a great neighborhood where all of us were the same age so we all played together whether it was summer or winter. Everyone was always outside. Maybe I'm getting old and don't see the other side to all of this because I don't have children. But hearing that on the radio really was disturbing. I was riding my bike with two wheels by the time I was 4 because my sister could and I couldn't and that upset me. I always had grass stains and cuts and my Mom would always have to bring dry clothes to elementary school because my friends and I would play football in the snow. I also know for a fact that Evan has WAY too many stories of his adventures as a child. I guess from my childhood I wasn't raised to rely on TV and electronics so I don't understand per say why any of these children are outside.
On another note, Evan and I have completed almost 3 weeks of P90X. I feel better all around and don't have near as many cravings for bad food anymore. It's also interesting to see Evan making dinner and carefully picking what to add to various recipes. We have started using everything low fat or just not adding the extra butter to various recipes because technically you really don't need it. Evan has noticeably become stronger with the various weights he is using and kicks my butt running lately because he keeps telling me he feels better. Um, hi has anyone seen his super long legs? I feel like a yorkie trying to keep up with a great dane. Anyways, overall we love P90X and it's fun doing the routines and being out of breath but knowing you are bettering yourself in the long run.
