After I was finished in Telluride I headed farther south to a town called Durango. Now nothing could have prepared me for what I was going to find down there. It was a totally different world, and I don't know if I was ready for it. Apparently the whole state of Texas was on spring break. so the entire town of Durnago was taken over by Texans... and let me tell you it was a sight to see. I have been skiing for over 8 years now and feel i have a good grasp of the skiing community, but unfortunately saw a lot of things for the first time on this trip that I hope don't follow me back to Utah.
Exhibit A: Ski bikes? You put mini skis on your boots, and ride a bike down the hill. Can you even dream of something that makes less sense. This lady looks just ridiculous and nobody even pulled her aside to let her know it. Unfortunately I was never able to see one of these contraptions get on the lift, but i can imagine it looked silly
Exzibit B:Nobody skis... Serious... They show up an hour before the lifts start turning to stake out a spot at the base of the resort. I almost saw a fight break out because someone tried to sneak a chair out of someone else's circle. They show up with all of these chairs, coolers, and just relax in the sun. They pay $80.00 for a lift ticket and take 2 runs.
Here's a list of things you will find in this picture that are alarming.
-Kids not skiing because they are sun bathing
-The guy in shorts and ski boots messing with his phone
-Only about three helmets
-Camouflage...
- Red solo cups
-In the center of the chair circles would be like a snow fire pit full of beers to keep them cold
-A lot of fur boots.
-Way to many headbands
I took a quarter turn to my left and here is the actual resort. Nobody on it... Yet the base looks like a Kid Rock concert. I don't understand... I felt like i was being filmed on an episode of my Big Redneck Vacation (Great show by the way)
After my demo at Durango I had to drive 6 hours up to northern Colorado and this is what most of the drive looked like. It was really pretty.
Southern Colorado is probably one of the nicest places I have been. It has really cool rock formations that reminded me of southern Utah but it's at a much higher altitude, so its covered in snow.
I am in Crested Butte now and this is my third trip down here this season. Crest Butte is by far my favorite location I go to in Colorado. I will post pictures once i'm finished.
